Organizers display some of the equipment gathered for the drive.
A group of Santa Barbara students are holding the city's Third Annual Sports Drive, a program to give new and gently used sports equipment to more than 750 kids in the Santa Barbara community.

SANTA BARBARA, CA (Catholic Online) - In addition to donating the equipment, it is hoped the program will inspire membership and participation in the Santa Barbara Boys & Girls Club where the drive will be held.

The event will take place on February 25 from 9-11am.

The program started three years ago with a small group of students who had only a pair of shoes to donate. Their idea quickly developed into a philanthropic pursuit as they collected equipment and gave it away to needy kids. The drive has grown quickly. Last year more than 4,000 items were given out to more than 700 local kids.

The goal is to grow the program further and to reach more kids this year.

The program is also collecting donations and interested participants can contact the Boys & Girls Club.
